Renault announces new plans for Drive The Future

Renault recently unveiled a six-year strategic initiative called "Drive The Future" (2017-2022), aiming to significantly transform its product lineup and technological advancements. By 2022, the company plans to launch eight fully electric models and twelve hybrid vehicles, with a total of 21 new models introduced across all segments—traditional fuel, electric, and hybrid. Among these, three are brand-new models that will be developed using the shared electric vehicle platform of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. This platform is designed to support the development of small to medium-sized electric vehicles. The first model from this new electric line is expected to debut in the Chinese market. It could be a compact SUV, part of a joint venture between Renault-Nissan and Dongfeng. After China, the model will expand to other global markets. Additionally, Renault has set a goal to reduce diesel vehicle sales by 50% by 2022, signaling a strong shift towards cleaner energy solutions. In terms of autonomous driving technology, Renault is also accelerating its integration into future models. Out of the 21 new models, 15 will feature advanced driver-assistance systems, ranging from Level 2 to Level 4 automation. This move reflects the company's commitment to innovation and safety on the road. With this ambitious plan, Renault expects a revenue growth of over 40% by the end of the six-year period. Global sales are projected to rise from 3.5 million units in 2016 to 5 million by 2022. Sales outside Europe are expected to double, with the Asia-Pacific region growing from 1.67 million in 2016 to more than 7 million. To achieve these goals, Renault will increase its investments in electric vehicles and commercial vehicles, particularly in the Chinese market, where it sees significant growth potential.
