Renault has recently unveiled its ambitious six-year strategy called "Drive The Future" (2017–2022), aiming to significantly transform its product lineup and technological advancements. By 2022, the company plans to launch a total of 21 new models, including eight fully electric vehicles and 12 hybrid options. This includes three entirely new models designed to meet evolving consumer demands and environmental regulations.
The electric vehicles will be developed on the shared platform of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which supports the production of small to medium-sized electric cars. The first model from this new generation is expected to debut in China, possibly as a compact SUV through a joint venture between Renault, Nissan, and Dongfeng. Following this, the models will expand to other global markets.
In addition to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, Renault aims to reduce diesel vehicle sales by 50% by 2022. This shift reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility and aligning with global trends toward cleaner transportation solutions.
Regarding autonomous driving technology, Renault plans to integrate advanced systems into 15 of the 21 upcoming models. These systems will range from Level 2 to Level 4 automation, showcasing the brand's dedication to innovation and safety in future vehicles.
With the implementation of this plan, Renault expects to boost its sales revenue by over 40%. Global sales are projected to rise from 3.5 million units in 2016 to 5 million by 2022. Sales outside Europe are expected to double, with the Asia-Pacific region growing from 1.67 million units in 2016 to more than 7 million. To support this growth, Renault will increase investments in electric vehicles and commercial vehicles in the Chinese market, further strengthening its presence in one of the world’s largest automotive markets.
