Image quality technology breaks through the bondage: Large-screen quantum dots smart TV welcomes the golden era

In our childhood, we were often taught a common belief: "Don't sit too close to the TV, or it will harm your eyes." This idea was rooted in the limitations of television technology from the past. In the 1990s, during the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) era, TVs were generally around 38 inches, and their imaging technology wasn’t as advanced as today. At that time, sitting too close could cause eye strain due to the low resolution and brightness levels. As technology evolved, televisions transitioned from DLP rear projection to LCD screens. Even with these improvements, watching large-screen TVs still required maintaining a certain distance. The reason? Close-up viewing could result in visible pixelation, making the image feel grainy and uncomfortable for the eyes. That’s why most living room TVs used to be around 55 inches, which offered a balance between size and comfort. However, the era of big screen TVs is now here. With consumer demand increasing and the television industry evolving, large-sized TVs have become more popular than ever. According to Yikang data, in 2016, sales of 60-inch, 65-inch, and 70-inch models rose by 49.4%, 11.8%, and 44.5% respectively. During the 2016 Spring Festival, TVs larger than 55 inches accounted for over 60% of the market. One major factor behind this shift is the reduced cost of large-screen TVs, making them more accessible to consumers. Additionally, rising incomes have fueled the desire for better visual experiences. People now seek home theater-like environments, and large screens play a key role in achieving that. More importantly, modern large-screen TVs no longer require strict viewing distances thanks to advancements in display technology. Today, we’ve entered the 4K and even 8K era. These high-resolution technologies significantly improve image clarity, allowing viewers to sit much closer without noticing pixelation. For example, a 50-inch 4K TV can be viewed comfortably from just 1–1.5 meters away, while an 8K TV can be watched from as close as 60 cm. Experts believe that 8K will be a game-changer in the future of visual experiences. Another breakthrough in reducing viewing distance comes from quantum dot technology. Samsung introduced this innovation in 2014, and each generation has brought significant improvements. Quantum dots are inorganic crystals that offer superior color accuracy and brightness, reaching up to 2,000 nits. This means they can reproduce colors accurately at any brightness level, providing a more realistic and immersive experience. QLED TVs, which use quantum dot technology, offer clearer images, richer colors, and wider color gamuts compared to traditional LCDs. They also reduce eye strain, especially when viewed up close. Samsung's latest QLED models, such as the Q9F, Q8C, and Q7F, have pushed the limits of what’s possible, making 75-inch TVs the new standard in many living rooms. The old rules about TV size and viewing distance no longer apply. Today, a 75-inch TV can be placed in a 20-square-meter living room without discomfort. As a result, the market for QLED TVs has grown rapidly, surpassing OLED in terms of sales volume and affordability. With China’s rising middle class driving demand for higher-quality entertainment, the need for better visual experiences is stronger than ever. The key challenge now is how to overcome the traditional limitation of viewing distance. Thanks to advancements in display technology, this is no longer a rigid rule. In the past, TVs were mainly for watching limited content. Now, they’re becoming more like movie screens, offering immersive and cinematic experiences. As living room TVs move into the 75-inch and larger range, quantum dot technology is not just a milestone—it’s shaping the future of home entertainment. Smart TV and box information can focus on smart TV networks and sofa butlers, providing updates on smart TVs, software, and more. If you have questions, feel free to ask!
