Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has recently introduced a groundbreaking series of axial cement wirewound resistors — the Z300-C series. This is the industry's first resistor to offer 12kV custom high-voltage surge withstand capability, making it ideal for applications that require exceptional durability and reliability in demanding environments. These Draloric devices are specifically designed to manage inrush current during high-voltage surges, ensuring safe and stable operation in power supplies found in electrical systems, industrial equipment, household appliances, and electronic ballasts. The Z300-C series features a non-flammable cement coating and a high-grade ceramic core, significantly enhancing safety under overload conditions. The Z300-C series can handle high-voltage surges up to 12kV and complies with IEC 61000-4-5 (1.2μs/50μs) standards. The maximum surge handling capacity varies depending on the resistance model and ohmic value. At an ambient temperature of 40°C, the power rating ranges from 1W to 6W, while at 70°C, it reduces slightly to between 0.9W and 5.4W. The resistances available range from 0.15Ω to 10kΩ, with custom values also possible upon request. The tolerance options include ±5% and ±10%, while the temperature coefficient is ±200ppm/K (±400ppm/K for resistances below 1Ω). These specifications make the Z300-C series highly adaptable for a wide range of applications.
