Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced a significant enhancement to the power rating of the 2512 form factor PTN series precision surface mount film chip resistors, now rated at 2W. These Vishay Dale thin-film devices are built with self-passivating, moisture-resistant nitride resistive film technology, offering high power ratings and an ultra-low TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) of up to ±25ppm/°C. The laser-trimmed tolerances ensure exceptional accuracy, with a tolerance as tight as ±0.1% across a wide temperature range from -55°C to +125°C.
The PTN nitride resistive film allows these components to withstand moisture levels beyond the limits defined by MIL-PRF-55342, making them ideal for use in critical applications such as military, aerospace, telecommunications, and industrial systems. This makes them particularly suitable for environments where humidity and long-term storage may pose challenges.
The PTN series includes 13 different sizes, ranging from 0402 to 2512, with resistance values spanning from 10 Ω to 3 MΩ. This offers flexibility for both standard and non-standard resistance requirements. The devices utilize a high-purity ceramic substrate, with package terminations featuring a nickel gate and solder coating, resulting in a resistance of less than 10 mΩ. Vishay also provides options for epoxy-bonded or lead terminations upon request.
In addition to their 2W power rating, the PTN series delivers noise levels below -25dB, a voltage coefficient of 0.1ppm/V, and voltage ratings ranging from 75V to 200V. These lead-free, halogen-free components are fully RoHS compliant and meet Vishay's green standards. Each resistor undergoes 100% visual inspection according to MIL-PRF-55342, and sulfur resistance is tested using the ASTM B809-95 wet steam test to ensure reliability under harsh conditions.
The enhanced 2512 form factor PTN series devices are currently available for sampling and are in full-scale production. For larger orders, the lead time is approximately eight to ten weeks, ensuring timely delivery for critical projects.
