**Foreword**
The landlord is a hardworking chemical dog. Most weekdays, he’s busy moving bricks in the lab. His photography journey began when he saw an exhibition in the library. A senior student showed him four years of photos that captured the essence of their university life. That moment sparked a dream: owning a camera of his own and shooting his own images. At that time, he was still a freshman. He saved for two years just to afford his first SLR camera. He did a lot of research on the K5II and ended up buying one from a wealthy family. It cost him 3600 yuan. Along with a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 lens, his photography journey officially began. (Back then, Pentax lenses were bought by Japanese generations, and now they’re like JD.com or Amazon.)

**Pentax K5II Period (Enlightenment Phase)**
Since I bought the camera, I experimented with everything. I bought photography books, watched online photos, visited forums, and got familiar with the camera’s operation. At first, I shot scenes and flowers. Then I moved to the campus community. That was my first time trying portrait photography. To do it, I borrowed an old Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX. I was on the painter’s machine, and the focus was really tough. I only dared to focus on the center.

Most of the time with the Pentax, I focused on landscapes and flowers, spending more time on them. I was also shy, so I didn’t take many photos of classmates or friends. But I tried all kinds of things, at least becoming more familiar with the camera’s operation. After a little over a year, I sold the K5II and the camera, and upgraded to a Nikon D750.

**Nikon D750 Period (Leveling Phase)**
Some people say “Canon for portraits, Nikon for everything.†I looked at the 6D’s price and performance, and since I often shot small landscapes and flowers, the D750 seemed well-balanced. So, I used the money I earned from odd jobs and the proceeds from selling my old gear. I gritted my teeth and bought a parallel version of the 50mm f/1.8G. Although it wasn’t as sharp as the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX, it had better focus and was of good quality. Plus, it was lightweight and affordable.

During this period, I gradually started taking pictures of classmates and friends to practice. The D750’s focus was much sharper than the K5II, which helped me improve quickly.

**Trying New Lenses (Leveling Stage 2)**
Most of my earlier photos were taken with the 50mm f/1.8G. Now, I wanted to try different focal lengths. So I bought the 35mm f/1.4 Art and the 85mm f/1.8G and started experimenting.

The 85mm G offered better focus than the 50mm, while the 35mm Art was great for event shots.

I also tried using a new electromagnetic lens, which had excellent focus and optical quality. The breathing effect was reduced, making it feel more natural. But it was too expensive for me.

**More Experiments and Projects**
After that, I tried various activities and photo assignments. I even used the school’s studio to shoot some lighting projects.

**Conclusion**
This article is based on my experience over the past two years. This is my first original post, so please forgive any mistakes. It’s basically a summary of the portraits I’ve taken in the last two years. They might not be perfect, but they’re all real moments. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just memories I’ll carry with me after leaving school. On the camera side, I’ll keep working hard, practicing more, and trying new things. I hope to share more photos with everyone soon.
