Hisense Prosecutes Sharp TV Patent Infringement: The latter Claims Not to Receive Notice

On the morning of November 29, Hisense Group announced that its listed subsidiary, Hisense Electric, had formally filed lawsuits in courts in Beijing and Qingdao. The company accused Sharp of infringing on its invention patents with as many as a dozen television models sold in China. This legal action marks a significant escalation in the ongoing patent dispute between the two companies. The patents at the center of the case are two key inventions: "A Backlight Control Method, Device, and LED TV" and "Backlight Drive Circuit and Television." Both are currently valid and have not expired, according to Hisense's official statement. These patents relate to critical technologies used in modern television displays, highlighting the importance of the issue at hand. Hisense claims that the allegedly infringing products are available in over 30 provinces and cities across China. In its lawsuit, the company is seeking an injunction to stop Sharp from manufacturing, selling, or offering for sale the infringing products. It also demands that all infringing items be destroyed. So far, both the Beijing and Qingdao courts have officially accepted the case, indicating that the legal process has begun. When contacted by Sina Technology, a representative from Sharp TV stated that they had not yet received any formal court notice regarding the lawsuit. However, the company is expected to respond soon as the legal proceedings move forward. This development underscores the growing competition in the global TV market and the increasing use of intellectual property as a strategic tool in business disputes. As the case unfolds, it will be closely watched by industry analysts and legal experts alike.
