To be honest, I'm pretty skilled at building my own PC, so many friends and students come to me for help. Usually, the easiest way is to recommend a complete system. However, for some local friends who want to build their own rig, I still prefer to install everything myself. It's more satisfying that way. Recently, a friend from Wuhan asked me to help him configure a gaming PC. He said he didn’t have a budget limit, which made me a bit excited. Money can buy anything these days. I let him choose the main components, while I took care of the rest using his old parts—no waste, no regrets. Here’s the configuration: - **CPU:** Intel Core i7-8700 - **Motherboard:** Gigabyte Z370 AORUS GAMING 7 - **Graphics Card:** Gigabyte GTX 1080 - **Memory:** Yingchi Hall of Fame DDR4 3600 (8GB × 2) - **SSD:** Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2 - **Hard Drive:** Seagate 2TB - **Power Supply:** Corsair HX750i Platinum Full Modular - **Cooler:** Cooler Master H55 Integrated Water Cooler - **Case:** Yingsheng 303 Black & Red The previous configuration diagram is shown below. ![Configuration Diagram](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/93/16/a9/c75a3e232c63f1887b0beb2b0b.jpg) Is it impressive? It’s just a simple setup because the rest of the components were sent directly to Wuhan. This one stays with me, allowing me to play around with dual GPU SLI. ![SLI Setup](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/9e/f3/64/dc958fa1c1e42e3befce3c6e3a.jpg) Thanks to AMD and Intel's fierce competition in 2017, we've all had our share of fun and food. The fact that AMD released the Ryzen 7 1800X in late October was really interesting. With six cores and twelve threads, it completely broke the traditional four-core dominance of Intel and became one of the most talked-about CPUs in history. ![Ryzen 1800X](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/20/4a/1b/8819f35e315ead98f98b5514a9.jpg) If you want to use the 8th Gen Core i7, you’ll need a Z370 motherboard. So unless you're a local enthusiast or just need it, I suggest waiting. The cost of motherboard, memory, GPU, and CPU together can easily reach tens of thousands. I’m just watching others have fun on my Z270 platform. ![Z270 Motherboard](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/42/51/c0/8606179e32b64d9225d657cdb1.jpg) A six-phase power supply is more than enough for general gaming. ![Power Supply](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/91/de/e1/7b9a3e0103fe7cf79eab0599c1.jpg) Now, motherboards are all about lighting effects. Even the memory slots have RGB bars. ![RGB Memory](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/bf/35/09/3a2b7d42d0aa31c07d7146c376.jpg) The South Bridge logo also has RGB lighting. ![South Bridge RGB](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/c9/f1/cd/a55acbef20c3ba9901c1074e21.jpg) Three PCIe slots with metal armor to support two heavy graphics cards. ![PCIe Slots](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/e7/fd/42/57ec0124b7b8411aa4a2a2ab1b.jpg) ![More Photos](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/f2/27/38/5047c20d997af7115cb9682df4.jpg) ![Another Photo](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/13/20/b9/823914bb9998a97ec9dbd3fdd4.jpg) ![Another Image](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/d5/9c/7d/47311408461796e32674fcbfc6.jpg) ![More Images](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/80/5e/9b/be69a4c856921fd97a98330475.jpg) This is the Gigabyte GTX 1080 I bought for him. The 1080 is more than capable of handling any current game. I personally prefer NVIDIA cards, but this one doesn't have RGB lighting. It has standard 3DP, 1DVI, 1HDMI ports, and an 8-pin power connector, which is quite good for its class. ![GTX 1080](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/7f/2f/f1/94aa2ccecd182f086da0a94687.jpg) ![More Photos](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/23/7d/64/73e61b941a53c40ade4e1fe821.jpg) ![Another Image](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/75/b1/b3/4f413807ce67aa8fff8aa51eba.jpg) ![More Photos](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/a1/ae/d9/acb18f43942950a9b310ed425f.jpg) ![Another Image](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/58/e9/35/630a81689ef976aef1fba7ece4.jpg) ![Photos](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/40/24/c5/3e9e53fad9ab771bc439c1061e.jpg) ![More Images](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/b8/09/bb/e39a4e279677f54ad79f83e031.jpg) This is my public version of the GTX 1080. The quality is much better than his, and he walked away with a matte black design. Mine is clearly top-tier. After the 1060, the interface became standardized: 3DP, 1DVI, 1HDMI, and 8-pin power. My card has a milk turbine cooling fan by GIGABYTE. ![My GTX 1080](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/21/95/84/67c9a29b2e26b943cf59e4cf1d.jpg) I don’t understand why he chose the GALAXY Hall of Fame memory. I wanted to go with a Chichi model, but he preferred white. As an RGB enthusiast, it was really tough for me. ![White Memory](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/61/c1/a0/c5d04b0eef2adb06d19cffcb33.jpg) The simple white style is now reflected in the memory, and even the GALAXY Hall of Fame graphics card is white. ![White Graphics Card](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/f6/59/72/8d9d7ca08f7e4eebd962ffe5a0.jpg) Even without RGB lighting, it still looks great on its own. ![No RGB, But Great](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/ac/f7/66/447b30286b9f972c66167342f1.jpg) Recently, memory prices have dropped significantly. If you're looking to upgrade, now might be a good time. ![Memory Prices](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/90/12/65/80707da90a35fa12d525fb6641.jpg) ![More Photos](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/e4/82/15/d89b797455cb31ff20c7b01418.jpg) It's temporarily good. ![Power Supply](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/d9/64/92/2b0384fd1e3e6f79b06fe96ff3.jpg) ![More Power Supply](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/ab/7f/d1/eeaffb8be2f849442ffc166986.jpg) The Great Wall Gold Dragon 1250W power supply is an 80PLUS gold certified unit with over 90% efficiency under typical load. It has a rated power of 1250W, active PFC dual-transistor forward design, 3.3V and 5V DC-DC output, independent 6-channel +12V outputs, and fully modular cabling. ![Gold Dragon PSU](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/14/58/99/3a4660326ea09d26d51ed8ac9d.jpg) ![More PSU](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5b/3a/ae/a0ec5e2b6709948195598fa998.jpg) Fortunately, the height of both cards is almost the same, so I used a hard bridge. ![Dual GPU Bridge](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/8c/a4/c3/9bd4c281e2cf7561659cdf42bb.jpg) ![Bridge Setup](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/6d/35/41/4aeca83fb24361b828920827eb.jpg) GPU-Z recognizes both graphics cards. ![GPU-Z Dual Cards](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/fc/a3/14/734a4ae5317c79c95934e96d17.jpg) Next, I'll run a test to see if it really makes a difference between single and dual cards. First, with a single card. ![Single Card](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/be/dc/cf/1957a5f889b0e7ebc.jpg) ![More Single Card](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/f9/d6/7f/9fd69e7c12237f89d6f7f52b39.jpg) ![Test Image](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/8f/db/14/c4f60baedc95a1d0b960fae6c7.jpg) Then, with dual cards. ![Dual Card](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/72/64/f4/42ffcd6afb4b7b8666ce01ecf5.jpg) ![More Dual Card](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/3e/64/b8/6c3ffd41906097bba913036214.jpg) ![Final Test](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/23/e4/38/8015268674fe06ee20b66999f5.jpg) When combined, the performance difference is clear, but SuperPosition recognized the dual cards. However, the frame rate actually turned out to be...? Anyone can explain? I'm confused. ![Performance Comparison](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/b5/82/76/03e16c097388ecd1cbabef8736.jpg) Single-card frame rate in the game. ![Single Card FPS](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/b0/05/dd/360ddcf478836c7cb7c8eb4900.jpg) Dual-card frame rate in the game. ![Dual Card FPS](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/f8/aa/1a/00964352533a28c6c43bb1a038.jpg) As seen, after optimization, there's no noticeable difference between single and dual cards in the game. They perform similarly. ![FPS Comparison](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/e6/a8/bd/16ce35fb2bab509280aa926013.jpg) Since I couldn’t send anything else to him, both cards were fake. Except for the frame rate, I didn’t see any other differences. The rest were all fake! ! ! I want real gold coins. Hahahahahaha! ![Fake Cards](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/d9/ef/8f/3301fc7cf796009c00584dbafb.jpg)
