As organizations look to leverage IoT, they must focus on building scalable, secure, and intelligent infrastructures that can handle vast amounts of data and deliver real-time insights.
"Having a deep understanding of business needs and the right infrastructure is essential for creating valuable IoT solutions," said Yoshida. "Choosing the right platform and service provider can make all the difference in ensuring success."
Skingsley added, "Companies should seek out open and resilient IoT platforms that simplify integration with other technologies. These platforms should enable the creation of diverse industrial applications, helping businesses design, build, test, and deploy solutions quickly and efficiently."
Another major trend is the rise of intelligent object storage. Enterprises often face challenges in accessing and managing data due to siloed systems. Data is frequently stored in isolated environments, making it difficult to extract value from it. This leads to inefficiencies and high costs.
"Data scientists tell us that 80% of their time is spent on data preparation rather than analysis," said Skingsley. "The concept of a data lake is promising, but without proper cleaning, formatting, and metadata tagging, it can turn into a data swamp."
Hitachi Content Intelligence helps address this issue by extracting data from various silos and processing it in multiple ways. It enables users to manage sensitive content effectively and maintain control over their data assets. By standardizing search processes across different systems, it connects and integrates structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
In 2018, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) will see widespread adoption, with companies beginning to realize tangible returns on investment. IDC predicts that by the end of 2017, one-third of Fortune 500 companies will see revenue growth from information products exceeding that of traditional products and services.

Video analytics is another area set to grow significantly in 2018. Beyond public safety, video analysis will serve as a “third eye†in retail, healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, education, and entertainment. Advanced algorithms can detect events in real time, combining video data with other IoT sources such as GPS and social media.
"Video can offer unique capabilities such as 3D motion tracking and behavior analysis," said Yoshida. "Retailers, for example, use video to understand customer movement and optimize product placement."
Yoshida emphasized the importance of high-quality video inputs. Technologies like noise reduction, image stabilization, and super-resolution enhance video quality, making analytics more effective. With the right tools, video analytics can deliver significant ROI and actionable insights for businesses.
