On January 3 and 4, 2018, the National Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Working Conference was held in Beijing. The conference aimed to deeply study, promote, and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China under the guidance of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It also focused on carrying out the instructions from the National Conference of Propaganda Ministers, reviewing the work done in 2017, analyzing current challenges, and planning the direction for press, publication, radio, film, and television activities in 2018.
Deputy Minister Nie Chenshui, along with other senior officials including the Director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, attended the meeting. Tian Jin chaired the event and delivered a closing speech, emphasizing the importance of maintaining political alignment and promoting ideological leadership across the sector.
Participants also attended the National Conference of Propaganda Ministers, where Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, delivered an important address. His speech emphasized the significance of Xi Jinping’s thoughts on propaganda and cultural work, urging all involved to apply these principles effectively in their daily operations.
Nie Chenshui highlighted the achievements of the press, publishing, radio, and television sectors in 2017, attributing them to strong party leadership and the correct implementation of national policies. He stressed the need to continue strengthening ideological guidance, focusing on quality content creation, and enhancing public services through technological innovation.
For 2018, Nie outlined five key priorities: deepening ideological education, creating high-quality cultural works, accelerating industry development, improving management efficiency, and expanding international communication. He called for a stronger focus on innovation, better copyright protection, and more effective global outreach to enhance China's cultural influence.
The conference also addressed the importance of party building within the sector, stressing that political discipline and ideological unity must be maintained at all levels. Nie urged the media and cultural industries to remain committed to their mission, working together to support the goals of building a moderately prosperous society and advancing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
Several retired officials and leaders from various government departments attended the meeting, underscoring the broad participation and importance of the event in shaping the future of China's media and cultural landscape.
