TE provides EP2.5 connector terminal lock insert model

TE Connectivity ( TE ) has introduced Terminal Lock Inserts (TPA) and Glow Wire Standards for its new compact EP2.5 connector family, ensuring compliance with the IEC 60335-1 safety standard for household and similar appliances.

James Dunbar, Global Power and Signal Interconnect Product Manager at TE's Home Appliances Business Unit, stated, “Increasingly, our customers are looking for connectors that include TPA and meet glow wire test requirements. By integrating these features, we can better address global customer needs.”

The EP2.5 is a compact single-row crimp connector system featuring a 2.5mm pitch (0.098") plastic plug, receptacle terminals, and connectors, offering a highly space-efficient solution. The series is available in 2 to 20 positions and comes with both 180-degree vertical and 90-degree right-angle socket options.

Additional design improvements include a newly developed TPA terminal lock insert, which prevents terminal loosening in vibration-prone environments and ensures proper seating within the molded housing. The external latch on the plug housing guarantees a secure fit with the socket, while the anti-damp bump design helps prevent misalignment during mating.

“TE believes that compact connectors require reliable and precise interconnection during assembly, and good tactile feedback is essential,” James explained. “Our foolproof design ensures smooth and efficient operation, even in noisy workshop conditions where interference might otherwise affect performance.”

The EP2.5 series is widely used in household appliances like kitchen tools, refrigerators, and dishwashers, as well as in high-voltage AC control and lighting systems. These connectors are cost-effective, perform reliably, and are ideal for applications requiring power and signal transmission through electronic wiring.

The EP2.5 connector integrates up to 20 wires (ranging from 20 AWG to 26 AWG) into a single 51mm (2-inch) PCB. Its ergonomic, rounded design supports rated power supply circuit applications at 4.5 VAC and 250 VAC. The connector is UL listed, operates across a wide temperature range of -55°C to 105°C, and is compatible with similar products for easy replacement. The molded case is made from UL 94V-0 grade material, and custom color options are available. The plug terminal is made from tin-plated phosphor bronze and is lubricated to prevent frictional corrosion and tin whisker formation.
