This morning, JD.com hosted a 3C retail conference at its headquarters in Beijing, officially launching the JD.com Home and JD.com 3C store. The event also marked the beginning of the 11th JD Global Good Festival. During the press conference, JD.com United Market Research Corporation and GfK China released insights into the sales performance of 3C products, including virtual reality (VR) devices.
According to the "2017 3C Core Product Data Report," the overall market for technology consumer goods is expected to reach 2.158 trillion yuan this year, with a positive outlook for future growth. In the VR sector, GfK highlighted that from January to August 2017, the virtual reality market experienced significant year-on-year growth, with a noticeable shift from low-cost products to more premium options.
GfK also reported that both online and offline sales of VR products saw substantial growth this year. The market has become more balanced and mature, with devices offering better user experiences and higher average prices gaining popularity. Among these, all-in-one VR devices and PC-based headsets are particularly favored by consumers.
In terms of specific figures, the online VR market grew by 59% year-on-year from January to August 2017. During the same period, PCVR, all-in-one, and VR headset accessories saw year-on-year growth rates of 327%, 57%, and 56%, respectively. Additionally, products priced over 1,000 yuan accounted for 47% of online sales and 53% of offline sales, indicating a growing preference for high-end VR solutions.
