Texas Instruments Synchronous Step-Down DC/DC Regulator Eliminates Switching Node Ringing in Automotive Applications

Beijing, July 6, 2016----Texas Instruments (TI) recently introduced two 36-V, 2.1-MHz synchronous buck regulators to eliminate ringing of switching nodes to reduce electromagnetic interference ( EMI), increase power density, and ensure proper operation under high pressure drop conditions. The 2.5-A LM53625-Q1 and 3.5-A LM53635-Q1 regulators are available for a variety of high voltage DC/DC buck applications such as automotive infotainment, high-end cluster systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and Body power supply system, etc. The wettable wing package provides optical inspection, which reduces manufacturing costs. Using these regulators and the WEBENCH® AutomoTIve Design tool from Texas Instruments, engineers can quickly bring the latest automotive designs to market. Switching node ringing is an inherent configuration of all switching power supplies. By reducing the parasitic inductance and capacitance of the LM53625-Q1 and LM53635-Q1 regulators, these power solutions can reduce overall system noise and electromagnetic interference emissions by 15 dB, reducing external EMI filtering and saving printed circuit boards (PCB) ) The area and simplifies the CISPR 25 automotive electromagnetic interference regulations.

Key features and benefits of the LM53625-Q1 and LM53635-Q1

The wide operating range of 3.5-V to 42-V makes it easy to handle the start-stop and load dump of 12-V lead-acid automotive batteries.

With a power efficiency of up to 93% at 2.1-MHz, it is fully capable of supporting compact and high temperature conditions in automotive applications.

The low-power 18-uA quiescent current (IQ) during standby significantly extends the battery life of applications that are always on.

The wettable wing package enables post-weld optical inspection.

High-pressure drop performance of less than 0.6 V at full load or high temperature conditions can meet stringent cold start and start and stop requirements, saving system costs and streamlining solution size.

The LM53625-Q1 and LM53635-Q1 regulators are combined with the recently announced LM53600-Q1, LM53601-Q1, LM53602-Q1, LM53603-Q1, and LM5140-Q1 buck converters for power levels below 0.65 A to over 10 A. A complete line of controllers and regulators built for automotive systems. All of these devices have switching frequencies greater than 2-MHz and feature ultra-low operating IQ and reduced electromagnetic interference effects.
