LED-backlit displays will become mainstream in the second half of this year

The use of LED-backlit displays has maintained a rapid growth in market share since its launch. Many display manufacturers have stopped the introduction of CCFL backlight products. At the same time, the price of LED-backlit displays continues to decline. Industry analysts believe that in the second half of 2011, the share of LED-backlit displays in Taiwanese display manufacturers' sales will exceed 60%, becoming the mainstream of the market.

Observers in the industry pointed out that LED backlight modules have been used in handheld devices and notebook computers in nearly 100% of applications, while LED backlight modules have begun to replace CCFL backlight modules in LCD TVs as a mainstream light source.

In 2010, the demand for LED backlight modules mainly came from the notebook and LCD TV manufacturing industries, which led many manufacturers and observers to believe that the rapid increase in the share of LED backlight displays will not occur until 2011. At the same time, LED backlight products were generally higher than those using CCFL products, which also deepened the reasons for this view.

In the second half of 2010, the rapid development of the LED industry made the price difference between the LED backlight display and the CCFL backlight display smaller and smaller, making consumers mostly willing to choose LED backlight products to promote a substantial increase in market share. In June 2011, the market share of LED backlit displays among Taiwanese manufacturers reached 57%, which is expected to exceed the 60% mark for the first time in July. ViewSonic, Chi Mei, and Asustek are leading companies in this field.
