Chinese Academy of Sciences and other research and development of LED fluorescent tubes up to 140 lm/W

On October 18th, China has invented LED fluorescent tubes with a luminous efficacy higher than 140 lm/W and has achieved industrialization. This was revealed by the Information Bureau of Fujian Province at a press conference on the "Science and Technology Achievements of Cross-Strait LED Industry" held recently.

“This marks the first time that China's LED fluorescent lamps have achieved a global record for lighting efficiency.” Academician Hong Maoji, director of the Institute of Materials Science and Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the highest overall lighting efficiency in the world was NSSW157A developed by Japan’s Nichia Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. in 2011. The lamp has an overall luminous efficacy of 129 lm/W.

This achievement was jointly developed by the Haixi Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fujian Wanbang Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. and Sanan Optoelectronics. The reporter saw from the monitoring report provided by the National Semiconductor Emitter Application Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center that the efficacy of the fluorescent tube system for inspection was 140.2 lm/W.

Academician Hong Maoji said that the R&D team has achieved comprehensive technological breakthroughs in key materials, optical design, thermal management, and power supply drivers, and has achieved this result.

According to He Wenming, chairman of Wanbang, at present, this achievement has been industrialized and a large number of orders have been made.
