China Mobile Maps User 70 Million Google Share Continues First

China mobile map users 70 million Google share continues to be the first According to the latest data released by the Analysys think-tank, as of the end of June 2011, the cumulative number of accounts on China’s mobile phone map clients was 74.9 million, which was reduced to 35.4% from the ring growth rate. Among them, Google Maps continues to top the list with 28.0% of the market share, and Baidu only has a 3.2% share.

Analysys think tank pointed out that in the second quarter of 2011, the growth rate of the mobile phone map client market in China has declined somewhat, but it still maintains the momentum of rapid growth. The market performance mainly has the following two aspects:

1. Channel factors: Compared with the hot selling factors in the first quarter of the Spring Festival, the total sales of smart terminals in the mobile phone map application for the second quarter (pre-installed) have declined.

However, the proportions of Android, iPhone and Windows Phone continue to increase. At the same time, based on the continuous pursuit of the LBS experience and the "map door" effect boost, mobile phone map applications rank among the top three downloaders in Android, Symbian, iPhone and other system application stores.

2. Product Strategy: Mainstream competitors begin to transform a single mobile phone map service into a map-based “life service portal”, and more and more integrate real-time road conditions and deep search services (industry POI library, user DIY-POI library, etc. ), UGC (geographical photography system), traffic information community and other more rigid needs or user adhesion services. The intersection of mobile phone maps with mobile location friends and mobile phone navigation applications has begun to expand, and the user’s product experience-oriented trend has intensified.

In terms of market share, Google Maps, Gaode Maps, and Nokia Maps occupy the top three positions in the Chinese mobile map client client market.

In the second quarter of 2011, benefiting from the promotion of channels and product strategies, the growth rate of the mobile phone map client market in China remained at a high growth rate of 35.4%. In the mainstream competition rankings, Google Maps continued to top the list with a market share of 28.0%, and the high German map and Nokia map continued to rank second and third respectively.

Relative to the turbulence in the map API market, Google Maps was minimally affected by the “map door” crisis, and its market share only fell by 0.4 percentage points. With the latest move of Google's open offline map function, it is expected that in the second half of the year, traditional mobile maps, mobile navigation applications, and even car manufacturers will face enormous pressure, and Google Maps' market share may increase further.
