This year Blu-ray Disc player shipments will increase by 80%

According to a survey report released by the UK’s professional investigation agency Futuresource Consulting, the sales of Blu-ray Disc players in 2010 are very optimistic. The total shipments in the year will increase by more than 80% year-on-year, including Europe, the United States, and Japan. The sales volume of Blu-ray Disc players in the major sales regions is expected to reach 24 million units.

Jack Wetherill, a research consultant with Futuresource Consulting, said that with the popularity of high-definition TVs and 3D TVs, and the drop in the sales price of Blu-ray Disc players, there is a huge potential for sales of Blu-ray disc players worldwide.

According to the report, from the perspective of global sales, the number of Blu-ray disc players in the fourth quarter of last year accounted for 50% of the total sales in 2009; and this upward trend is still continuing. It is expected that the Blu-ray Disc in the fourth quarter of this year. The sales volume of the machine will reach more than 11 million units.

The report is very optimistic about the future market potential of 3D Blu-ray disc players. The report predicts that among the Blu-ray disc players shipped this year, the proportion of 3D Blu-ray Disc player shipments will reach 10%, and this proportion is expected to reach 25% next year. In addition, 3D Blu-ray disc players will reach 40% coverage in the three regions of Western Europe, the United States and Japan in 2014.
