AMD Releases Five New Opteron Exclusive 12-Core Expansion Forces

AMD Releases Five New Opteron Exclusive 12-Core Expansion Forces AMD announced today the launch of five new Opteron 6100 series server processors, including three 12-core and two 8-core.

The AMD Opteron 6100 series is codenamed Magny-Cours and is the world's first 8/12-core x86-architecture server processor. It is manufactured on a 45-nm process and features a Socket G34 1944-pin package interface. It is internally based on a second-generation direct connection. Architecture, HT 3.0 bus bandwidth up to 6.4GT / s, supports four-channel DDR3 / LV-DDR3 memory, three-level cache up to 12MB, support for AMD-V virtualization technology, mainly for the dual and four-way server market.

The Opteron 6100 series was released at the end of March 2010 and landed in China one month later. The first batch of 10 models and 8/12 cores each had a power consumption range of 65-105W.

This time the newly released five model types are quite rich, mainly on the current model speed, power consumption is unchanged:

- High-performance version Opteron 6180 SE, 12 cores, clocked at 2.5GHz, average processor power (ACP) 105W, suitable for high-performance computing, financial services, databases, virtual data centers;

- Standard Edition Opteron 6176/6140, 12/8 core, clocked at 2.3/2.6GHz, ACP 80W;

- Low-power version Opteron 6166/6132 HE, 12/8 core, clocked at 1.8/2.2GHz, ACP 65W, suitable for high scalability and energy-efficient systems such as web erection, virtualization, and cloud computing.

All of the above five new products have been shipped to OEMs. Acer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, etc. will launch relevant server products during the quarter. AMD said that these new processors can provide SMBs with lower power consumption and more balanced systems, providing higher performance and cost-to-power ratios for enterprise and public environments.
