The goal of LED bulbs: the range of illumination to catch incandescent lamps

The LED bulb refers to a bulb that uses the same LED chip and the same shape as the incandescent lamp. Like incandescent bulbs, it can be mounted on E26, E17 and other lamp holders. However, compared with incandescent lamps, power consumption can be greatly reduced. Some types of LED bulbs consume less than one-fifth the power of incandescent bulbs. Around 2010, more and more regions around the world began to ban the use of energy-efficient incandescent lamps. LED bulbs are expected to be used as alternatives to ordinary incandescent bulbs together with bulb-type fluorescent lamps.


LED bulbs have a longer life than bulb-type fluorescent lamps. Long-life bulb-type fluorescent lamps are only about 12,000 to 13,000 hours, and most LED bulbs have a lifespan of 40,000 hours. The disadvantage of the bulb-type fluorescent lamp is that it cannot be turned on instantaneously and the brightness is low when it is turned on, and the LED bulb does not have these disadvantages. The overall efficiency of the LED bulb (including the overall efficiency of the power supply circuit), the bulb color product is about 50.60 lm / W, the daylight color product is about 70.90 lm / W (all Japanese manufacturers' values), and the bulb type fluorescent lamp quite.

However, the LED bulb has a problem that the light irradiation range is small. Incandescent bulbs have an illumination range of about 300 degrees, bulb-type fluorescent lamps are about 260 degrees, and ordinary LED bulbs are only about 120 degrees. Therefore, a lighting fixture that needs to illuminate the side direction in addition to being straight down is not suitable for use with an LED bulb. LED bulb manufacturers solve the above problems by using a reflector that changes the direction of light illumination, or by increasing the light diffusibility of the lampshade that covers the light-irradiated surface, or by stereoscopically arranging LEDs. Panasonic's products, which went on sale in March 2011, have expanded the range to about 300 degrees, and Toshiba Lighting Technology's products, which are scheduled to go on sale in April 2011, have expanded to about 260 degrees.
