Philips Lumileds: LUXEON "Bright" to get rid of the bin

In the past few months, Lumileds has released breakthrough innovations such as LUXEON A and LUXEON S, which will forever change the expectations of LED possibilities. This breakthrough innovation will have two related new effects on LEDs. The first is the thermal test, and the second is to get rid of the bin.


Light quality
The core requirements for light quality are consistent throughout the world. Visually, the light must look comfortable, and the color and consistency between the LED and the LED should be the same. At the same time, it may be the most important. Whether today or tomorrow, we must be able to achieve the same results simply and with confidence. This is also necessary to get rid of the binning - all LEDs look exactly the same at a certain color temperature. Get rid of the binning, there will be no color temperature binning map. Just pick a color temperature and you can see that the color of each LUXEON LED is exactly the same.

Technically, getting rid of binning is achieved by using Lumileds' unique film chip flip-chip technology (TFFC) and Lumiramic fluorescence technology. The combination of the two technologies allows the peak of the blue LED pump chip to be matched with the measured prefabricated Lumiramic ceramic fluorescent plate to achieve the purpose of locking to the same color coordinates. In this way, every LED we make at any time will have accurate color coordinates to get rid of the bin.

A particularly important breakthrough is the company's thermal testing of the corresponding products. Typically, LEDs are tested at a junction temperature of 25 °C. However, taking LEDs instead of bulbs or downlights as an example, typical LEDs have a junction temperature of about 85 °C. When the junction temperature of the LED rises, not only the light output and the light effect will be attenuated, but also the color will drift. Now, after hot testing, these problems have been solved. Lumileds has developed a new test method and calibrates its new LEDs for performance specifications at a junction temperature of 85 °C. Thus, when the manufacturer chooses LUXEON A or LUXEON S, the light output, light efficiency and color coordinates of the actual working conditions are known in advance. There is no need to grade again, and there is no need to worry about color drift. For luminaire manufacturers, such products are simple, cheap and better.

The combination of thermal testing and getting rid of the bins is an exciting demonstration of the new advances in the development of white LED technology, and the quality of the upper floors is trusted by the industry.
