Re-examine the future of medical treatment technology

Five years ago, the author published their views on the future of medical imaging in an article entitled "The Future of Medical Imaging." Now, this article will review these visions for the future, to think carefully about the changes that have taken place and to revisit the future of medical treatment technology.

The main driving force for the future development of the medical field is still the same as it was five years ago: to achieve personalized health care. Unsurprisingly, some progress has been made in this area, and its progress has been faster than expected, mainly due to the rapid development of smart hardware and applications such as mobile phones and technologies such as the cloud.

Another trend that is still moving forward is that health care has shifted from diagnosis and treatment to prevention. At the same time, these three areas are constantly improving and improving. The vast amount of medical data available from the cloud has helped this work, but has been limited by the legitimacy and shared medical information processing, as well as the ability to obtain useful information from such a large amount of data. As always, technology will use the advanced analytics, workload-optimized servers for data analysis and the delivery of useful information to the personal cloud to push healthcare toward preventive (or “predictable”) healthcare. Direction development.

Personalized and high precision devices

As technology advances, there is a whole new perspective on enhancing the operational capabilities of technology systems. Dr. Clifford Dacso, a professor and researcher at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, gave the following statement: “In describing medicine, people hold four main points: 1) that treatment is helpful without side effects, and 2) treatment Helpful, but with side effects, 3) I think treatment is useless, but there are no side effects, 4) I think treatment is useless and has side effects. It is time to personalize the medical treatment."

Dr. Dacso pointed out that a long-standing medical tradition, in order to facilitate management, group patients, each group of treatment is the same, rather than treating each patient as a separate individual, as well as during treatment. Like many prophets in this field, Dr. Dacso believes that the transformation of personalized medicine is coming, and this will bring huge advantages.

He also said: "We will all die of a chronic disease on a certain day. This means that we can completely eliminate this catastrophic disease or make them chronic diseases." So, not only should people be rescued, but also medical It will also be converted from the treatment of chronic diseases to the prevention of the production of chronic diseases or at least the prevention of acute attacks of these chronic diseases.

One of the key aspects of this predictive view is to increase the accuracy of medical care. Dr. Emad Ebbini, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota and Chairman of the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound, believes that “high precision will lead to a safe and efficient method,” so that technologies that enable medical personalization will also make medical care more accurate. Accuracy will make treatment safer, more coherent, and less costly, while at the same time being able to reach all corners of our society.

Technical update

From the publication of the previous article to the present, many changes have taken place in the field of technology. Three value indicators: performance, price and power consumption have been greatly developed. A powerful computer in the form of a smartphone and tablet that you can carry around with you, almost never leave. On the other hand, cloud computing connects these devices together and improves their performance, significantly changing our perception of medical and medical imaging.

Intelligent hardware

The computer we carry with us has more and more functions, no longer just a phone, a camera or a music player. The app enables games, investment tracking, diet management, and collecting vital signs. And this is just the beginning.

cloud computing

Cloud computing has been around for many years, but before it was called the Internet. Now, its scope and functionality have been greatly expanded, everywhere, everywhere. This is a way of life. Forgetting our interface with the cloud (such as smartphones) at home will cause a lot of trouble for our lives.

Big hodgepodge and clouds

The new trend is to connect everything to the cloud, without exception, not just smartphones. All types of sensors (even medical sensors) can also be connected to the cloud, and micro-clouds can also occur. Smartphones can also control many smart sensors while being controlled by larger clouds. Smartphones become personalized micro-clouds, and larger clouds may become the cloud used in homes, cars, coffee shops or offices. Of course, all of this is connected to each other through more clouds. The “hodgepodge” around the cloud is similar to the “cluster” concept around the cloud shown in Figure 1, but the term is more positive and positive because it can be used to connect all types of useful objects to the cloud, thus Achieving unlimited prospects for personalized health.

Cluster around the cloud

Connected home

Clusters and clouds allow us to provide equipment and equipment for our homes with many diagnostic tools that are currently only available in hospitals and clinics. Vital signs will be monitored without interruption, and other aspects of health are under constant and detailed observation. As the cloud and clusters generally infiltrate into our lives, disruptions and differences in health surveillance outside the home will also be mitigated. Surveillance will be a continuous activity, no matter where people go, it will be around. With all the advantages of this technology at your fingertips, doctors' opinions are starting to become less important. The first diagnosis is that the technology continues to monitor vital signs and other health aspects. And this first diagnosis provided to the doctor allows the doctor to give a better and earlier opinion, so that the purpose is not to treat the disease, but to prevent the occurrence of the disease, which is in line with the preventive medicine mentioned before. The development trend is closely integrated.

The technology will be able to give a first diagnosis by combining the widely used sensors that continuously collect personal data with advanced algorithms and computing power for data analysis.
