Würth Elektronik eiSos (Wurter) has introduced a new REDFIT IDC SKEDD WR-WST series of solderless, space-saving and pluggable signal transmission connectors . The product line is available in 4 to 20-pin models for permanent use on PCBs and temporary connections for programming and debugging purposes.
REDFIT IDC is a solderless, reversible, in-line connector using SKEDD technology. It can be manually mounted on the plated through holes of the PCB, eliminating the need for additional sockets and any associated soldering processes. It also eliminates the need to plug in and out, saving another component and reducing assembly and process costs.
Especially for miniaturized components, it requires less space and the lower the height required for any plug and other connector components, the better. The REDFIT IDC SKEDD connector takes up only the space of the connector itself on the PCB and does not require extra space above the board.
The SKEDD connector is connected to the ribbon cable by insulation displacement technology. The plastic rails at the bottom of the housing are longer than the contacts, preventing short circuits under the board. The different thickness of the guide pins provide reverse polarity protection during the simple and tool-free insertion and removal of the connector.
